Specialist Mental Health Support

We support adults with mental health conditions, either as a standalone diagnosis or alongside brain injury, substance misuse and other complex needs. Our individualised approach promotes stability, recovery, independence and long-term wellbeing.

Mental Health

Supporting mental health as part of the whole picture

At High View Care Services, we support adults with mental health conditions as a standalone diagnosis, as well as those whose mental health needs occur alongside acquired brain injury, substance misuse, physical health conditions or other complex needs.

Our experienced teams are skilled in supporting a broad range of diagnoses and presentations, including depression, anxiety, psychosis, post-traumatic stress disorder and personality disorders. We understand that every person’s experience is different, so support is based on their individual needs rather than being limited by a diagnostic label.

Our Transdisciplinary Team (TDT), including Clinical Psychologists, Neuropsychologists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Social Workers and specialist Neurorehabilitation Coaches, works from one integrated plan. This brings together each person’s mental health, emotional wellbeing, cognition, physical health, relationships and daily living needs.

Whether mental health is the primary diagnosis or one part of a more complex presentation, we provide coordinated, skilled and person-centred support focused on stability, recovery, independence and long-term wellbeing.

Mental Health

Who do we support?

We support adults with a wide range of mental health needs, whether as a standalone diagnosis, alongside an acquired brain injury or as part of another complex presentation. This may include depression, anxiety, psychosis, post-traumatic stress disorder, personality disorders, substance misuse and significant emotional or behavioural difficulties.

Some people have a long-standing mental health diagnosis and later experience a brain injury. For others, the injury itself leads to psychological, emotional or behavioural changes. We also support people whose combination of needs has made it difficult for other services to provide one consistent care framework.

Many clients come to High View Care Services after placements that could support one aspect of their needs but not the whole person. Our skilled, integrated team brings mental health support, rehabilitation and complex care together within one individualised plan.

OUR HOMES

Find the right home for your loved one.

Our four specialist homes across South East London offer structured, therapeutic environments for adults with acquired brain injury, mental health, comorbidities and complex needs. Each one is calm, purposeful and focused on real progress and stability.

Mental Health

A genuinely integrated approach

Mental health support at High View Care Services is embedded within each person’s individual plan and delivered as part of our wider Trans-disciplinary Team (TDT). Therapeutic strategies are implemented consistently by the staff supporting the person throughout the day and night.

For clients with a standalone mental health diagnosis, our Clinical Psychologists lead the psychological approach. They support such as emotional wellbeing, trauma, anxiety, low mood, personality-related difficulties, identity, relationships, coping strategies and relapse prevention.

Where mental health needs occur alongside an acquired brain injury, our Neuropsychologists provide specialist input that considers both psychological wellbeing and the cognitive or neurobehavioural effects of the injury. This may include difficulties with memory, attention, executive function, emotional regulation, behaviour and self-awareness.

Through structure, consistency and unconditional positive regard, our team provides the stability and specialist support each person needs to move forward or maintain their wellbeing.

We, as the Local Authority, could not have achieved these positive outcomes without the invaluable support and collaboration of the staff team at High View Care Services and our colleagues from the ICB. Their commitment, professionalism and ongoing involvement have been instrumental in achieving the best possible outcomes for the individuals we support.

The important questions

Can you support someone with both a brain injury and a serious mental health condition?

Yes. This is precisely the kind of complexity High View is built for. Our Trans-disciplinary Team (TDT) includes Clinical Psychologists and Neuropsychologists who work with both the cognitive consequences of brain injury and the co-occurring mental health conditions that often accompany it, all within the same integrated support plan. We do not treat one in isolation from the other, because in practice they cannot be separated.

How do you approach personality disorders in the context of brain injury?

Personality disorders frequently co-occur with acquired brain injury, and the interaction between the two can be complex. Our Clinical Psychologists and Neuropsychologists work together to understand how the brain injury has affected the person's presentation and how the personality disorder shapes their experience, responses and relationships. Support is built into the individual plan and delivered consistently by the whole team, because consistency is particularly important for people with this presentation.

How do you support clients with a history of substance misuse?

Substance misuse histories are common among the people we support. Our psychosocial approach includes specific strategies for relapse prevention, building self-awareness and developing the coping skills that reduce the likelihood of substance use being used to manage difficult emotions or situations. This is addressed as part of the client's overall support plan and involves the whole Trans-disciplinary Team, not just a single clinician.
